Explanation Of Benefits
Creative dance in early childhood education corresponds to the fundamental phase of movement development that occurs
between the ages of two to seven. During this time, loco-motor (e.g. creeping, walking, running, jumping, leaping and galloping), non-loco-motor (e.g., stretching, bending, twisting, turning, shaking and swinging), and stability and balance skills are able to flourish when children are provided with sufficient practice opportunities.
Creative Movement provides children with opportunities for noncompetitive, success-oriented and creative experiences.
Through movement, children learn about their bodies, the space around them, and each other. Creative movement activities should encourage all children to participate. Both boys and girls enjoy these classes. All children can benefit, including children with communication, sensory, developmental or physical challenges.
I hear and I forget.
I see and I remember.
I do and I understand!
Great care is taken in the class placement process. Each level contains students within a particular range of development so there will naturally be an upper and lower ability in each level. Students are placed according to their current stage of ability, physical and psychological development and age. Students progress faster by spending the length of time necessary to master these fundamentals, rather than rushing ahead to the complex and faster paced steps of a more advanced level. Therefore:
- Class placement is solely at the discretion of the teachers and the studio director.
- Parents are kindly reminded not to stay in the class as it is distracting for the children. There will be an in class demonstration at the end of the 8 week session to present material learned.
